Ready for a new career opportunity in the Netherlands

Are you ready for a new career opportunity in the Netherlands?

Here’s how to land your dream job! (or at least a better one!)

One of the most common questions I hear in my daily work with both internationals and Dutch clients is: "How can I find a great new job in the Netherlands?". (Most of my clients are highly skilled.)

There’s no single “trick” to unlocking the perfect job, but I’d like to share some powerful insights to help you succeed in this competitive job market.

ready for a new career

1) Don’t be afraid to reach out – Call the recruiter or hiring manager

It might feel intimidating, but believe me: most people are approachable and happy to help. Take your job search seriously, and your stress will begin to fade. Calling ahead shows initiative and helps you stand out.

2) Tailor your resume without overthinking

Many of my clients either rely on a generic resume or spend too much time tailoring it. It doesn’t have to be an exhausting task! Strive for balance: customize your resume while keeping it concise and impactful.

3) Say goodbye to clichés – Write a genuine cover letter

Your cover letter is your opportunity to show authenticity. Avoid using overused phrases – instead, focus on what you truly believe. Craft your letter in a way that’s easy to read and that genuinely reflects your enthusiasm.

4) Professionalize your LinkedIn profile

Your LinkedIn profile is your digital first impression. Invest some time in making it stand out: use a professional and attractive picture, a strong background image, and a compelling headline. Avoid industry jargon in your job titles, and make your profile clear and attractive to potential employers.

5) See yourself as an equal in the job search

The process isn’t just about you impressing the company – they need someone like you, too. Don’t let fear hold you back. This is a two-way street where both sides have something valuable to offer. Approach the process with confidence, knowing that your experience and skills are valuable.

6) Understand the true needs of the organization

Empathy is key. Put yourself in the employer’s shoes and ask insightful questions about the company and its needs. This will allow you to showcase your relevant skills in a way that resonates with them and helps you get a clearer picture of whether this job is the right fit for you.
